August Book Review

How does it work?

Each month I select a book. I’ll share why I chose and a link to purchase so you can get the book and read along! You may also wait until you hear our month end review. We’ll review the book, honestly, those reading along participate and share thoughts and those who just want some intel before reading on their own can learn more. Here is our August book review of Beach Read.

This month’s choice—Beach Read– here is the link

What’s it about?

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Did you like it?

It’s been a crazy year and a crazy summer! This month I wanted an escape from reality. So, I intended to lay by the pool, pretend I’m at the beach, and get lost in this fiction novel, Beach Read!

Reality set in, I didn’t make it to the pool 🙁 But, I did make it to the back patio. The beginning three chapters were slow and I literally fell asleep twice trying to get into this book. That may be because I am a stressed out and exhausted mom of two crazy kids, but I also think the beginning was genuinely slow.

Finally, I got into this book after the long set up and the action began. The middle journey portion of this book is intriguing as two characters try to show each other their views, values, backgrounds, life lessons. The ending was dull, I’m not going to spoil it for those who want to read the book, but I thought they could have done so much better.

I don’t regret reading it as it is a light fiction read for summer. If you need to fall asleep read the first few chapters. If you want awesome characters and a steamy sex scene read the middle. If you are romantic, read the end.

My overall review of this book is a 5 out 10, I would love to hear comments from anyone else who picked this one up this summer!
